About this site tour

This site tour offered a unique opportunity to explore how Superwood and Marc Koehler Architects are pushing the boundaries of sustainable urban design. Attendees delved into the innovative use of wooden facades at the Republica development, where these eco-friendly structures not only contribute to the aesthetic appeal but also enhance the building's environmental performance.

The tour also highlighted MaMa Pioneers Poppies, a pioneering coliving project that embodies the transformative potential of modular timber housing. Designed to create vibrant, interconnected communities, Poppies exemplifies how modular construction can address the pressing need for sustainable and high-quality urban living spaces. This development showcases the seamless integration of sustainability with modern design, offering a glimpse into the future of urban housing.

In addition, participants learnt about the application of these innovative techniques in projects like Bob W Amsterdam Noord, a dynamic space that blends modern design with the rich industrial heritage of the area. Located in one of Amsterdam’s most creative districts, this project demonstrates how sustainable architecture can enhance the character and functionality of urban environments, making them more livable and connected.

To conclude, the tour featured an interactive Q&A session, allowing attendees to engage directly with the architects and designers. This was an opportunity to discuss the challenges and possibilities of implementing these cutting-edge sustainable solutions in coliving and student housing projects, and to gain deeper insights into the future of urban living.
